Beauty industry veteran creates a new generation of salon studio-suites design

Industry veteran Peter Friedauer is taking his knowledge of salons and the beauty business to the next level by building two new studio suites locations in the Denver metro area.

Just as he brought innovation through the years to his Zuri Salon & Spa in Cherry Creek North, Friedauer is applying his European design sensibilities and Swiss precision to the creation of the MODERN SalonStudios, where hairstylists, barbers, massage therapists, aestheticians and nail technicians can work and accommodate their clients.

“Clean-lined work spaces are what beauty professionals and customers want,” said Friedauer. Traditional suites are cluttered and lacking in function, he said, noting his goal is to create “a new generation of salon suites design.” Having spent many years as a stylist, salon owner and member of such prestigious organizations as Intercoiffure, he understands a beauty professional’s needs when it comes to everything from salon chairs and shampoo bowls to cabinetry for displaying products.

He also appreciates that stylists want to be their own bosses and that’s why the salon suites concept has taken the industry by storm in recent years. “When you lease a suite, you can set your own hours and serve your clientele around a schedule that meets both of your needs,” he said.

Friedauer has designed the suites so that all a beauty pro needs to do is bring his or her tools, supplies and retail products to the suite. Everything else is furnished, including a 24-inch HDTV with free WiFi, a mini bar fridge and towels (on-site laundry facilities are provided).

Leasing is underway for the MODERN SalonStudios at 8000 E. Quincy Ave. in the Denver Tech Center, and at 7705 Wadsworth Blvd. in Arvada’s Indian Tree Shopping Center. The locations are expected to open in mid-to-late October. The combined total of the two locations is 60 studios, ranging from 117 to 138 square feet for singles and 150 to 203 square feet for doubles. Each location will also feature a lobby with a welcome and interactive information center.

As an incentive to those who take advantage of early leasing opportunities, the company is offering $250 for stylists to use in purchasing retail products of their choice. Early birds also will be able to pick the studio locations on a first-come first-served basis.

Beauty professionals can go the website the MODERN SalonStudios to see the layouts and identify a space that suits their needs. Some spaces will accommodate two stylists.

The difference between the MODERN SalonStudios and those currently operating is that Friedauer’s designs looks like a full storefront, with retail products displayed in the window and a 7-foot tall glass door entrance. When clients walk down the aisle, they will see one business after another with various retail products featured.

To celebrate the first two locations, the company is giving away a trip for two to Las Vegas. Any cosmetologist, hairstylist or barber with an active Colorado license can enter to win the trip that includes a three-night stay at the fabulous Bellagio Hotel & Casino, two round-trip airline tickets (maximum value $1,350) and $100 to try their luck. “My goal is to empower beauty professionals to take back their ability to create art in an uncluttered studio while allowing their clients to escape from the demands and pressure of their daily lives,” Friedauer said. “The Chi-inspired clean-lined spaces create a positive energy flow and a professional salon-like environment.”
